In His Image:  Where Our Identity in Christ Meets the World

Series Purpose

This world often misinterprets our Christian worldview as harsh and hateful when we uphold biblical values about the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman, about abortion, about gender identity and roles, and about extramarital sex. We all know that God instructs us through His word that abortion, homosexuality, assisted suicide, sex outside of marriage, transgenderism, and the “if it feels good, do it” mindsets are wrong. But how do we respond to those who believe otherwise? How do we display the love of Christ to them? In this series, we will explore the “worldview that drives [this] secular ethic” to “be able to engage intelligently and compassionately on all of today’s most controversial moral challenges" (Pearcey 9). Our goal is to be firmly grounded in our identity as God’s image bearers in order to be the aroma of Christ to the world even (or especially) when the world disagrees with us.

Series Format

  1. There will be pre-class assignments to complete prior to our discussions for sessions 2 through 9. These assignments will require you to read and study assigned Scripture passages or short readings from other sources and then to journal your responses to a few questions in order to prepare you for our group discussions.
  2. There will be optional readings from Love Thy Body:  Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality by Nancy R. Pearcey each week. While these readings are not required, you will benefit from Pearcey’s thought-provoking, biblical discussion of these issues. The dialogue questions in the series overview chart above come directly from the study guide at the back of Love Thy Body. This book is available from Amazon,, or other book sellers.
